1992년 유럽에서 원자력업무에 직접 종사하고 있는 세계 각국의 원자력 분야 여성 전문가들이 일반 사람들에게 원자력을 제대로 알리고 이해시키는 일을 하기 위한 모임을 만들어 'Women in Nuclear (WiN)'라는 단체를 발족하였다.
처음에는 유럽 몇몇 나라 여성 전문가들만이 힘을 합하여 활동하기 시작했습니다만 현재는 이 운동이 전 세계로 확산되어 많은 공감을 얻고있다. 현재 WiN Global은 세계 145개국의 여성 원자력 전문가 약 3만 5,000명이 회원으로 가입되어 있다.
런던에 본부를 두고 있는 WiN은 해마다 여성원자력전문인의 대회를 개최하여 원자력 문제에 대한 여성 특유의 경험과 정보를 교류하고 있으며 또한 어떻게 하면 원자력에너지와 방사선 이용에 대한 내용을 일반 대중, 특히 여성과 차세대의 주역이 될 어린이들에게 올바르게 전달할 수 있을지를 함께 고민하고 있다.
To be a forum for raising awareness about the essential contributions of the peaceful uses of the nuclear energy and radiation applications, with special emphasis on the protection of the public, the quality of life, and as a key element for the solution of the climate crisis, and for promoting gender equality and diversity.

1. To boost an evidence-based dialogue with the public to promote awareness and education on the benefits
of nuclear technologies.
2. To promote interest in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) and other nuclear-related
disciplines, especially among women and young people.
3. To contribute to knowledge transfer and experience exchange among members and chapters.
4. To achieve diversity and, in particular, gender mainstreaming and gender balance in the nuclear sector.
